Guardian Angels

Posted on April 03, 2025 in: General News

Do you know what the real job of our Guardian Angels is?  First of all, we tend to forget they are by us every second of our lives. And we also think their job is to protect us from harm,  physically. We say things like, "Wow, my Guardian Angel was having to work overtime through that accident!"  While this may be part of their job, their real job is getting us to heaven!

Our Guardian Angel is not there to prevent us from suffering or dying.  Suffering is all a part of our spiritual growth, part of being human with original sin and death is our way to eternal life.  Our Guardian Angel's real job is to get us prepared for heaven.  They live in the presence of God and they know God's mind much better than we ever could. They know when an injury or illness will draw us closer to God.  They are here to help us with our decisions of picking what is good for us to get to Heaven.

It's not saying they don't 'show up' in a human disguise to 'help' us. There are lots of stories of people in danger who were 'helped' by a person who then disappeared. But that is not the most important part of an angel's job.  Their job is to help us get to Heaven.

When I was a child, I was taught the Guardian Angel prayer and it was a little different from the one see in our prayer books or pray.  I do not know how my parents knew to ask the last verse of this familiar prayer, but I think is was inspired because it actually asks for the help of our Guardian Angels in the way they are truly a help to us, with our souls!

"Angel of God, my  guardian dear, with whom God's love permits me here. Ever this day be at my side, to light to guard to rule to guide From sinful stain oh keep me free, an heir to God's own temple be Amen."

I've always prayed this last line and didn't realize no one else besides my family used it. Asking my Guardian Angel to help me spiritually to get to heaven, to guard me from sin by inspiring my conscience.  It is a beautiful addition!
