Help Us Build A New Building for the Food Pantry
Plans for our new building are coming along. We are accepting donations to raise money to build a new food pantry building. Please donate to help people in need from our community today!
Who We Serve
The Food Pantry serves over 640 families, including 1800 residents of Cape Girardeau County each month. Located at 134 S. Sprigg Street we are
initiating plans for a new building and beginning a fund raising drive for a new building on this same site. Begun as a ministry by Sister Lucille Zerr
in the 2006 to ease the constant request for something to eat in the southeastern portion of the City of Cape Girardeau, Sister Lucille
encouraged volunteers to look for a site to give out food to area community residents who were in need. Members of both St. Mary's and
Old St. Vincents were quick to pitch in and begin collecting food from local grocery stores, SEMO Food Bank and out of their own home
pantries to help the poor. They found a site directly across from St. Mary's church and though the building was old, they tried to make it usuable to serve as a food pantry.

In 2014 the Catholic Social Ministries committee raised funds to purchase a panel truck to help in collecting food for the pantry.
It was blessed by Fr. Allan Saunders, pastor of St. Marys. Today, many miles and hours later the truck is seen picking up food
from area grocery stores and the SEMO Food Bank.
Our Volunteers
We thank the many volunteers who help us collect food, stack it in the pantry and our storage facility which is a house
nearby. We have volunters who work the parking lot, carry bags to cars, fill the bags, pick up food donations and much much more.
Our Catholic Social Ministries Committee meets every month to keep the Food Pantry going.
